Born This Way?

Had great fun doing this illustration for Rolling Stone Magazine. The ever flamboyant Lady Gaga.

Recycling Fun

I recently put on an art workshop at Christ Church School, Streatham, London, with a group of year 4's. The 'Artweek' workshops were centered around using recycled materials to create art. So we used our fruit corner yogurt pots to make talking animal puppets.

Deborah Orr Portrait for The Guardian

Sadly Deborah Orr lost her hair fighting the Big 'C', so when I got the call from The Guardian to update her byline portrait I was determined to give it my all. I hope she likes it. Keep up the fight Deborah!!

Cover to Cover

Just enjoyed a good run of Magazine Covers. October 2010 I illustrated John Boehner for the National Journal. In February 2011 I illustrated a whole host of Football legends for FourFourTwo’s 200th multi Cover issue. Lastly to top it all off I got to illustrate the Cover of Sky Movies magazine. Truly humbled.

Waaadar

The theme for this years CIA Calendar is  ‘If I were...” the rest of the sentence was up to the artists to finish. I thought about Bruce Lee saying “If I were you I wouldn’t do that”. If you contact the Central Illustration Agency you might still be able to get your hands on one.

Award Winning Wix Filters Print Campaign

I never enter my work for Awards, mostly because I don’t have time for any additional admin work, but occasionally the agencies that I work with enter our collaborations. I was shocked to find out that a campaign I did back in 2006 had scooped two awards. A Silver Telly and a Silver ADDY were awarded to the Wix Filters print campaign I illustrated in partnership with Wray Ward. Wow!

Nokia Flagship Store Windows

For the September 2009 issue of Wired, I worked on a series of illustrations for a 3-page advertorial on the Nokia N97 mobile phone and personal navigation device. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that Nokia were so pleased with the advertorial that they used the illustrations for a full-scale installation in their flagship stores in New York and Chicago.

Rockstar Games Backdrops

Having worked on Rockstar Game’s, 2009 ‘Grand Theft Auto’ release I was contacted again at the beginning of 2010 to paint some more backgrounds. This time around I was rendering images for Rockstar’s new release ‘Red Dead Redemption’.

Ty Sculpture: A Special Kind of Fool album artwork

The Nkisi or Nkondi style of the sculpture was a technique used in 19 Century West Africa where reflective surfaces were used to represent eyes and human hair, teeth or indeed any object thought to be spiritually charged was placed inside the sculptures hollow centre to affirm oaths or dispel evil forces. The TY sculpture head is representational of this process and acts as a protector of the relentless and uncompromising approach to this artists music. The materials used are largely objects that make or share music. Guitar strings, picks, headphones, phono leads, firewire cables, flash drives, mic cords etc are all used to reflect that, in essence, TY is a music man and a creative pioneer.

But lastly I hope that the artwork is ambiguous enough that people will interpret it in whichever way they want.
